The Lady Byron School Values
What are values?
Values are individual beliefs that motivate people to act one way or another. They serve as a guide for human behaviour.
Why do we have values?
Having a set of school values reflects that we
- create a culture where pupils experience a positive and enriching school life.
- uphold ambitious educational standards which prepare pupils from all backgrounds for their next phase of education and life.
- promote positive and respectful relationships across the school community and a safe, orderly and inclusive environment.
- ensure a culture of high staff professionalism.
Our School Values
These are the values we decided upon:
- Independent: Encouraging independence means fostering students’ ability to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions on their own. It’s about nurturing self-reliance and the confidence to pursue learning autonomously.
- Kind: Kindness is the cornerstone of a supportive school community. It involves treating others with compassion, empathy, and respect. Teaching kindness cultivates a culture of inclusivity and understanding where everyone feels valued and supported.
- Confident: Confidence in a school setting means empowering students to believe in their abilities and talents. It’s about instilling the courage to take risks, express ideas, and tackle challenges with resilience. A confident student is more likely to engage actively in their learning journey.
- Prepared: Being prepared means equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to succeed academically and beyond. It involves fostering organizational skills, time management, and a proactive approach to learning.
- Positive: Maintaining a positive atmosphere in school fosters a conducive environment for learning and personal growth. It’s about cultivating optimism, encouragement, and a can-do attitude among students and staff, even in the face of challenges.
- Safe: Safety is paramount in a school environment. It encompasses physical safety, emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging. Creating a safe space where students feel secure and supported enables them to thrive academically and socially.
- Respect: Respect is fundamental to building strong relationships and a harmonious school community. It involves treating others with dignity, understanding, and consideration regardless of differences. Teaching respect fosters tolerance and acceptance.
- Happy: Happiness is integral to student well-being and overall success. It’s about nurturing a positive school climate where students feel valued, engaged, and supported. Promoting joy in learning and celebrating achievements contributes to a fulfilling educational experience.
